Ponza, Italy

If you’re visiting Rome and looking for a day trip, here it is. You probably haven’t ever heard of Ponza, but I’m sure you have heard of Capri. While tourists visit Capri, Italians head off to Ponza for their holidays. It’s also where I got engaged 🙂

Ponza

Ponza itself is made from remnants of an extinct volcano and is known for its natural bridges and arches. Interestingly, during fascism the island served as isolation for prisoners including Mussolini after he was exiled.

EcoArt Travel

I found this trip through Viator and booked a few weeks before we went. Groups are very small with a max of 6 people. Our guide is an American who moved to Italy and will translate the tour. Transportation to Anzio is provided where you will board the ferry to the island. Lunch will be made on the boat, for us it was a fish pasta with homemade wine. Snorkeling equipment will be provided for you and there are plenty of stops to swim and explore sea caves.
