Rome is home to many Romans as well as people from so many other places. This makes for so many different food choices all in one big city. Here is my list of favorite places to eat in Rome with an Irish surprise included!
Il Chianti Vineria
My first ever meal in Italy was at Il Chianti, so it has a special place in my heart. It drew my attention immediately with lush vines blanketing the outside wall and an inviting warm light radiating from inside. There is a beautiful outdoor terrace to eat on as well.
The house wine is delicious, but they have a ton of other bottle selections available. I ordered the spaghetti alla carbonara with a rich egg sauce that had me scraping my plate.
Pantherei
A few steps from the Pantheon is an inconspicuous sign for Pantherei. Down a small alleyway is an authentic restaurant right in the center of a heavily trafficked tourist area. I met my Italian friend Mattia and his wife here for a wonderful lunch. It is locally priced, meaning you won’t pay outrageous tourist costs here.
Ristorante Rotonda Roma
We stopped here for a late night salumi board and left with kisses from the owner. Rotonda Roma is a tiny restaurant on our hotels street. We paid 25 euro for an entire bottle of wine and salumi board!
Scholar’s Lounge Irish Pub
When in Rome, find the Irish pub? Although quite expensive, we enjoyed some Irish beers on our walk back late afternoon. They make their own unfiltered pilsner which is pretty tasty. Cost us a hefty 51 euro for beers and quesadillas.
Tre Scalini
Who doesn’t get some gelato after dinner!? Tre Scalini is in Piazza Navona close to the Pantheon. At night the piazza is lively with entertainers, music, arts and crafts.
Don Nino Gelateria
Don Nino is not only the cutest gelateria there is, but also makes a great cone. It has such a clean, yet traditional Italy ambiance.
